i eat way too much, and i depend on practice to work it all off. im not overweight or anything, but im afraid that i will become overweight if i keep eating the way i do. at lunch i always eat my lunch and then i "help" my friends finish their lunches. im normally hungry, but sometimes i eat when im not hungry too just because i know that i can without actually gaining weight. but im starting to realize that i cant do gymnastics forever, and by then it might be too late to break the habit.

I am exactly the same! I just try to eat healthier snacks instead of eating 'junk food' try eating an apple or banana or some strawberries or carrots\veggies and dip and you will not fell that way.
Erin...
I hope that helps!

as long as you burn more than you eat, you'll be fine!

Any1 here watch Canada's Next Top Model? Well, they brought in a professional trainer and he was skinny and VERY fit Laughing . Anyway, he said that he was clinicly obeisse(sp). So he was over the average wait 4 his age by about 50 pounds or sumthing, but he was super fit. So also remember that a scale can't really determine how much u weigh.

As for your eating habits, my friends and i always eat tons and tons of food so it's not a crime, plus, when u stop doing gymnastics, stay in sumthing that keeps u active. I know a lot of retired gymnasts do karate, diving etc. Good luck and stay fit! Wink

My daughter is just starting out in gymnastics, and some of the parents said some gyms actually weigh the girls . I can't believe this happens. Does anyone know if gyms do this??

OH WOW !!! I am a parent and involved in the gym world for all my life I have never ever heard of such a thing. To my knowledge I have never come across a coach a club or a parent who has actually said that their kid gets weighed. I think this is simply a rumor a parent probably started for NO GOOD REASON. I was a gymnast back in the day and NEVER got weighed I was a coach and Never weighed anyone and my child is now a gymnast and has never been weighed. Geeesh that is just insane. I say just ignore that rumor unless the person has first hand witnessed that it has happened and can name the club.. I would say WHATEVER!!!

my daughters previous gym weighed and measured them (height) especially if they regressed or were having trouble on a skill

i think it is fine - as long as there is no mention of weight being an issue

doctors weigh kids all the time....it is a sign of growth - and a gym coach should know if their athlete has/is growing

Well I gotta say I would have an issue if they were weighing my daughter. She has been competitive for years, changed clubs once, and neither gym did that and NONE that I know of do. I understand the comment about them weighing them is a sign of growth etc...but I don't think that should even be a factor, ever. Fact is muscle weighs much more than fat...my kid weighs quite a bit in comparison to some others I am sure but it doesn't mean anything, she doesn't have an ounce of fat on her...in fact when she is in her gymsuit you could count all of her ribs! (but don't worry we do feed her...LOL! ...alot!! ) I am not sure where you heard this or what gym you are taking your daughter to but I would question it. To be honest I have heard that rumour go around about the gym my kid goes to now...came from a parent from a gym not too far from ours...i just laughed because my kid has never been weighed there...height yes..they do that for the ODP's but never weight...I would definately question the logic behind that and think REAL hard about sending my kid to a gym that does that....however make sure they actually do first and that it isn't just rumour!
